        Core Principle: Your conversations are strictly yours. Personal AI Memory processes and stores your AI chat history locally on your device. We only collect opt-in, anonymized usage data to help us improve the extension.
      

1. Information We DO NOT Collect (Your Content)

We believe your AI conversations are deeply personal. We strictly separate your content from our analytics. We do not collect, read, transmit, or store any of the following on our servers:

Your chat logs, prompts, or AI responses.
Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as your name or email.
The content of the web pages you visit.

2. Information We DO Collect (Anonymous Activity)

To understand how our extension is used and to build better features, we collect basic, anonymized telemetry data only if you provide explicit consent (Opt-in). This data includes:

Feature Usage: Which buttons are clicked or which features (like search or export) are used most frequently.
Performance Metrics: Extension load times and search query speeds (but never the search queries themselves).
Error Logs: Anonymous crash reports to help us fix bugs quickly.

This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you or reconstruct your personal activities. We use standard, industry-compliant third-party analytics tools to process this anonymous data.

3. Local Storage Architecture

Your actual conversation data relies entirely on your local browser technologies:

IndexedDB: All conversation text and metadata are stored in this encrypted-at-rest (by OS) local database within your browser profile.
Chrome Storage API: Used exclusively for your personal settings and UI preferences.

4. Permission Transparency

To provide its core functionality, the extension requires specific technical permissions:

storage & unlimitedStorage: Necessary to save large volumes of chat history locally.
scripting & content_scripts: Required to read the chat interface on supported domains (like ChatGPT, Claude) to capture text.
host_permissions: Limits the extension's ability to only function on the AI sites you intend to archive.
offscreen: Used for high-performance background tasks like building a searchable index.

5. Security & No Remote Code Execution

In compliance with modern security standards (Manifest V3), Personal AI Memory does not load or execute any remote scripts for its core functionality. All logic is bundled locally within the extension package, preventing "man-in-the-middle" attacks and ensuring the code you see on our repository is the exact code running in your browser.

Since your data is stored locally, its security depends on your device's security. We highly recommend keeping your browser up to date and using device-level encryption (like FileVault or BitLocker).

6. Your Choices & Data Rights

You remain in full control of your data and your privacy preferences. Within the extension settings, you can:

Toggle Telemetry: Opt-in or opt-out of anonymous usage data collection at any time.
Export: Download all your stored memories in .json format.
Selective Deletion: Remove specific sessions or individual messages locally.
Full Reset: Wipe the entire local database with one click.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Your continued use of the extension after any modifications constitutes your acknowledgment of the updated terms.
